Prevalence of oral mucosal lesions in nursing homes elderly people in western Iran

Abstract Objective The aim of this study to determine the prevalence oral mucosal lesions in elderly living nursing homes western Iran (Kermanshah). Background This was conducted Kermanshah, Iran. Materials and methods descriptive performed on 598 people who lived home. Medical history, medication demographic information were collected from participants' medical records. through interview examination instruction explained WHO. Results A total elderly, 253 men 345 women, examined. Of all 101 (16.9%) smokers 248 (41.5%) had dentures. overall 52.5%. most prevalent population xerostomia (37.6%), sublingual varicosity (25.8%), candidiasis (5%), red white (4.7%). common systemic conditions hypertension (20.1%), depression (14.2%), diabetes (6.2%). with 1.743 times more likely have (Odds Ratio = 1.7; confidence interval = 1.15–2.63). Conclusion Considering observed manifestations also nature aging its consequent side effects medications other treatments, require carefully planned dental health monitoring care services special consideration their conditions.
